about
25 years ago or so, I came up with a guitar strum and a melody that featured the words 'Oh my lady'. 2 years ago, during lockdown, I decided to record what was now a finished song with a piano part and asked Paddy Milner Music Page if he would play it. He improvised a superb part that added so much to the song that I then decided it would also need drums and brass and why not a double bass line! It took a long time but with the help of Meynet Julien (double bass), Jim Wallis (drums, mixing), Marius Gicquello (trumpet) and Matheus Abner (trombone) it is finally ready for release on 27 January 2023!
Musically it is an upbeat, minor swing and the lyrics, which I sang in a deep voice, are about finding love after a long, solitary journey...
lyrics
Oh my lady the Lord he’s kept me walking
Kept me walking walking night and day
So I had to lose my love for this endless walking
The nights were cold like an endless morning
Oh fine lady now I see you talking
Touch my fingers, cover them in rings
Now I can be king again, I can be a great king
If you say you will be my queen
Chorus :
Oh my lady, oh my Lord
Oh my people I’ve been walking
We all have to walk our roads
I’ve been walking, now I’m home
See the stars shining in the black sky
I can see each one in its beauty
Oh but when my heart was cold, back when I was walking
I saw millions but did not see any...
